Building a shared approach to change across Council

Monash City Council needed leaders across the organisation to understand their role in supporting change and address the barriers that can limit effective implementation. The development also needed to reflect the realities of local government and equip leaders to guide teams through uncertainty, resistance and different responses to change.

Objective Leader delivered the in-person Thriving in Uncertainty workshop series to approximately 160 leaders across four cohorts, from emerging leaders and supervisors through to senior and executive leaders. Each workshop combined a common set of change principles with content tailored to the responsibilities and operating context of that leadership group, including team dynamics, resistance and adaptive leadership.

The series achieved the agreed capability outcomes across each cohort: executives and managers clarified their roles in driving change, identifying and mitigating risk, and building commitment, while coordinators strengthened their ability to support frontline leaders and embed new ways of working. Across Council, leaders developed a shared understanding of how effective change management supports organisational performance, together with practical approaches for navigating the human impact of change.
